Emergency Rules

The  BOP is pretty quiet on how to manage the Pharmacy in this crisis. I am only speaking to the hospital environment.   For example, what if the pharmacist(s) are sick and/or quarantined.  Will be able to let our techs work in some manner w/o RPH present?  Are the rules for sterile compounding out the window?  We are already looking to use 1 gown and mask per day for chemo.  Nursing incident commanders are already suggesting the usual rule will not apply such as maintaining accurate counts of controlled substances in the 'heat of battle'.  What do you all think?

I am not sure the BOP knows what to do in this situation. I do not believe they would ever allow technicians to work without pharmacist oversight. As you know the new LAPT will be able to do more including product verify and if that had been finished and they were in the market place there would be an option to issue an emergency rule that a pharmacist would not have to be on site if the verification and DUR were done remotely and the LAPT was filling or product verifying. The way the statute is now the pharmacist is responsible. Last I knew there were a lot of pharmacist's available per diem through a number of staffing agencies and they would be available to fill in shifts if a pharmacist couldn't work for some reason. I do think if you have a legitimate concern or question you should call compliance at the Board and make them aware and let them follow through with the Board members for you
